About sixty customs officers assigned to Calais and Dunkirk for Brexit will have to leave after having stayed only a few months on the job.

Although it was entered on Friday evening, Brexit is not effective. The customs officers will only really take office in several months. "There is no workload, we cannot leave the agents without doing anything," said the deputy director general of Customs at AFP.

Opportunities to stay in the region

According to the CGT and the CFDT, 68 agents learned this week that they had to change their assignment by early March. The CGT-Douanes Dunkerque regional secretary denounces "catastrophic human resource management".

The UK's exit from the European Union on Friday 31 January will mark the start of a transition running until the end of the year. During this period, EU rules will continue to apply on British territory and the arrangements for relations between the United Kingdom and the European Union will have to be defined.

At the end of a meeting Wednesday, the direction of the Customs affirms to have given more time to change of assignment and more possibilities to remain in the area.
