Move the Gare de l'Est? The proposal reacted. The LREM candidate in the municipal elections in Paris, Benjamin Griveaux, unveiled this Sunday a plan to move from the Gare de l'Est to the suburbs.

A project which arouses strong reactions among Alsatian internet users, attached to the historic station which welcomes them upon their arrival in the capital. "Contempt", "disconnection" or even "anti-Alsace racism" ... Internet users in the region pin the idea of the candidate Griveaux on social networks.

"An above-ground and contemptuous proposition for the provincials"

"As if by chance the Gare de l'Est, indignant Jacky, that translates the contempt of our policies for the citizens living in this region", indicates this reader in response to our call for testimonies. "And why not move the Eiffel Tower ...", says Alain.

The Gare de l'Est is magnificent and useful: it's racism against Alsace / Lorraine! Warning !! https://t.co/AJiQCUV5J7

Others fear that the duration of their journey will become longer. "The main advantage of the train being to arrive at the destination directly in the heart of the city, it will take an additional journey to get to the capital," annoys Pierre. "Nice hassle in anticipation for those who will have to transit through the Gare de l'Est if this idea is applied," writes Florence.

"The advantage of the train is that it allows you to arrive in inner Paris," observes Ju. To be useful, a station must be usefully positioned ”. Taoufik, who lives in Haguenau, about thirty kilometers from Strasbourg, finds "this Parisian proposal completely above ground and contemptuous of the provincials".

"Benjamin Griveaux must have played Monopoly too much"

On the political side, the reactions, fresh, come mainly from the LR camp. "Benjamin Griveaux must have played Monopoly too much in his childhood," jokes the president of the Grand Est region Jean Rottner. “Thus penalizing the east of the Ile de France and the Grand Est region by making excessive greenwashing once again demonstrates this great ability to be far from everything. Parisians, ”criticizes the elected official.

. @ BGriveaux must have played #Monopoly too much in his childhood.

Thus penalizing the East of @ iledefrance and @regiongrandest by making excessive greenwashing demonstrates an X of + this beautiful ability to be far from everything. Parisians. Regional and national challenges https://t.co/fBYXB7o2D5

For her part, Valérie Debord, vice-president of the Grand Est region judges the "crazy idea". She considers that "the interest of the train is to arrive in the city center" and that a station located in the greater crown would constitute a "break in load which would weaken the quality of service".

Only a small handful of Alsatian Internet users remain to judge the proposal "interesting" although "hardly feasible". Some wonder about the possibility of funding the 1.5 billion euros advanced by the candidate to finance this measure.
