The DJ from Nice received 20 Minutes in his recording studio, at his home - F. Binacchi / ANP / 20 Minutes

  • The Avener, Tristan Casara of his real name, met success with The Wanderings of the Avener , mainly composed of covers.
  • DJ Niçois releases his second album Heaven .
  • It includes 80% of personal compositions.

Inside the house he had built on the heights of Nice, near the Bellet castle, Tristan Casara (his real name) spends the majority of his time in one and the same room. It was there, in the studio where he invited 20 Minutes , that The Avener mixed his "last four years of madness" in Heaven , a second album to be released on Friday.

After the success of The Wanderings of the Avener , it took a little longer than expected to be released ...

I had given a date [end of 2018] to put pressure on myself and be able to move forward [laughs]. But, in fact, I also like to take my time. I wrote part of the songs in Los Angeles, to give them a Californian color. But also in London. I made about fifty titles and we chose fifteen. Then, if it took longer than expected, it is also because I had put many things on hold for five years with the previous album. I had to find myself in my personal life.

Do you feel more expected with Heaven , which has more personal compositions?

I wanted to do something else, to show a little more of myself. I freed myself after several months spent in the studio. And for more than a year, I kept myself from listening to news. I didn't want to be tempted to draw. In the end, there are 80% originals and also a few song reworks that were close to my heart. The result is quite eclectic I hope, that's what represents me. There are electro, pop songs. It's fairly hybrid, as airy as it is dynamic.

An atmosphere that will translate live?

This is exactly what I want to do with the new tour that will go through the zeniths, especially in Nice on December 11 and also in Bercy on November 14. These gauges allow us to set up a hybrid show there too. There will be a lot of musicians and performances in the first hour and then we will make the hall into a giant nightclub.

The single Beautiful is already used in several advertisements. Does this success always surprise you?

It's going very fast, it's true. And when I find that things are going too fast, I come to relax in Nice [laughs].

Are you still committed to energizing the city in terms of current music?

At the request of the mayor of Nice, I published a report of my recommendations. It was well received. Now, I think we will have to wait for the municipal elections to see what can be implemented. I will remain available for Christian Estrosi.
