• Experience: From a small igloo to 15 design rooms: the world's first ice hotel turns 30
  • Snow. The 10 cheapest ski resorts in Europe (and one is Spanish)

It seems taken from a dream or, at least, from a fantastic series, but Arctic Bath is real. If you warm up, you can visit it this winter. Just opened its doors.

With a circular shape, the new floating hotel allows you to jump into the icy water inside. It aims to offer a unique wellness experience that has a lot to do, of course, with the water of the Lule River that crosses this corner of Swedish Lapland. Moreover, its design is not at all exotic in the minds of the inhabitants of the area. It emulates those tangles of logs that are formed during the transport of the wood floating downstream.

The hotel has been built with local materials and with very little impact on the environment. It has six floating cabins for couples, joined by wooden bridges to the shore. Another option is to stay in the six raised cabins of the forest, with huge windows to not miss the northern lights or the magical light of the midnight sun, depending on the time of year. Each room has been carefully designed with furniture and details created by well-known Swedish brands.

It is a hotel to soak. The ritual passes from the saunas to the hot baths and culminates with a jump into the Arctic waters of the river. For the stranger it can be a clash not only of degrees Celsius but also cultural, but it should be carried away ... Lapland is a land of contrasts.

Local immersion continues in the restaurant, led by Kristoffer Åström , the "Sami chef", who has managed to introduce Sami techniques and flavors in Swedish haute cuisine. Despite its remote location condition, only proximity products are consumed at Arctic Bath. Reindeer, poultry, fish and many herbs are available nearby. Chicken and lamb, in Strömnäsgården, 10 km. For milk, honey and vegetables you have to go to Voullerim, 40 kilometers away.

For almost 10,000 years, the Sami people have lived on the Arctic nature and many of their customs are still very much alive. Guests can meet her first hand by taking an excursion to the house of Anna Kuhmunen, a young Sami whose family has been dedicated to grazing reindeer and has a deep knowledge of the local nature. You can also try the physical activities of the landscape, see snowshoeing, cross-country skiing, bear watching, horseback riding and wildlife photography. Yoga, mindfulness and meditation are also options in this hotel.

| Practical Guide. Arctic Bath (from 900 euros per room) is a 75-minute drive from Luleå airport. More information at www.swedishlapland.com and www.visitsweden.com
