Inspection of water pipes across rivers Demonstration experiment using drone Osaka Sakai January 21 20:41

In order to efficiently inspect the water pipes installed across the river, a demonstration test using a drone was conducted in Sakai City, Osaka.

The inspection using a drone was carried out for the first time by Sakai City in cooperation with a private company.

On the 21st, a commercial drone equipped with a high-performance camera photographed a water pipe installed across a river to check for cracks and paint peeling.

In addition, the drone was wrapped under water pipes that were difficult to see visually, and checked for any abnormalities.

There are approximately 300 water pipes across the river in Sakai City, and until now, city officials had been visually checking from around.

According to the city, inspection of water pipes using drones is rare across the country, so the city wants to consider introducing it after verifying the results of this experiment.

Mr. Koji Ikura, Manager of the Sakai Water and Sewerage Bureau, said, "Since it is possible to see parts that are difficult to see visually, it is useful for maintenance and management. I would like to consider whether drones can be used in various situations in the future."
