Evaluation of IAEA Regulatory Commission's “Inspection Review” Proposal for Emergency Preparedness January 21, 16:44

The IAEA = International Atomic Energy Agency has reviewed the NRA's inspection system, including the introduction of unannounced inspections starting in April, and has recommended implementation of training in preparation for emergencies.

The IAEA is evaluating nuclear regulators according to the requirements of each country, and the Japanese Nuclear Regulatory Commission has been hearing from 14th of this month.

The results were announced on the 21st, and the government decided to "evaluate" the review of the inspection system scheduled by the Regulatory Commission from April.

Specifically, the inspections that were previously conducted at a fixed time were revised, so-called “unannounced” inspections were introduced. We will change the content to give more weight.

On the other hand, the IAEA recommends training for emergency situations such as transporting radioactive materials by car in the event of a car accident breaking containers and contaminating the surroundings. Will be shown in the report.

According to the IAEA, the overall evaluation is that "the inspection system has been improved compared to before the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear accident." The Nuclear Regulation Authority will use this information in future inspection system reviews.
