"Mom, we love you so much ... We dedicate the show to you tonight and I will sing for you with all my heart," Celine Dion tweeted Friday, after the announcement of her mother's death. The singer kept her promise the same evening in Miami, paying tribute to Thérèse Dion on stage with a moving speech.

"I must admit that I am a bit shaken," said Céline Dion, assuring her audience "going well". "It was thanks to her and my father that I became an artist," she said in particular. So tonight, my brothers and sisters and my whole family would like to dedicate this show to him. And so it was that later in the evening, the singer performed a moving version of Somewhere Over The Rainbow in front of her mother's photo.

A cooking show and the “Fondation Maman Dion”

Thérèse Dion, nicknamed "Maman Dion", Céline's mother, died at 92 years old. She was the wife of Adhémar Dion, who died in 2003 after a long illness, and the mother of 14 children, including the youngest, Céline, who sold nearly 250 million albums. She launched the career of Céline, then aged 12, by sending a tape to the manager René Angelil. It was in January 1981 that the recording fell into his hands. The producer, who was to become her husband, was impressed by the young singer's voice.

Thérèse Dion hosted for several years a cooking program on TV, while marketing her cooked meals under the brand Les pâtés de Maman Dion . She also created the “Fondation Maman Dion”, which aims in particular to support the academic success of young Quebecers aged 5 to 16 and from disadvantaged backgrounds.
