In Kamakura City, traffic congestion caused by tourists visiting by car has affected the lives of local people, and measures have been a long-standing issue.

The city is considering the introduction of "road pricing," which collects tolls from cars running on the roads of tourist destinations, in order to reduce the number of tourists visiting by car.

On May 15, Mayor Takashi Matsuo of Kamakura City visited the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism, and handed a request form to Toyoto Ikeda Road Commissioner for assistance in realizing the system.

This includes analyzing big data, simulating changes in traffic volume when tolls are collected, examining ways to collect tolls by ETC on general roads, and transmitting information on nearby parking lots to smartphones. We are looking for cooperation in demonstration experiments to be distributed.

Mayor Takashi Matsuo said, "We would like to work with the Ministry of Land and Infrastructure to make a new start toward realizing the system."
