Respond to "environmental emergency". This is the mission entrusted to the Breton Agency for Biodiversity which has just been created. "The question of biodiversity is somewhat the poor relation of public policies", underlines Thierry Burlot, its brand new president, ensuring that it was now necessary to act "otherwise".

"We all know the loss of biodiversity that we see on the planet, and Brittany, despite its exceptional natural heritage, is also affected by the phenomenon," continued Thierry Burlot after the first board of directors of the establishment held on Tuesday. Thus, 65% of the 17 nesting seabird species are threatened with extinction, while 30% of the butterfly species are now at risk at regional level.

Six other similar structures already exist

With a budget of 600,000 euros for this year, the Breton Biodiversity Agency will be based in Brest and will eventually consist of a team of nine people. This new establishment should make it possible to strengthen cooperation between the players to bring out new territorial projects, to support the development of preservation and / or restoration projects and to amplify the mobilization in favor of biodiversity.

Six other similar structures already exist in other regions and in particular in Ile-de-France, in Normandy, in the Center-Val de Loire or in Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur.
