- The album is very much about unhappy love, being left out. It's been a way for me to process those feelings, that grief. There are no happy songs exactly, says Alice Boman, laughing.

"Be a little nervous"

Dream on has been produced by Patrik Berger, who previously worked with artists such as Robyn and Icona Pop. They sound far more populous and clubier than Alice Boman.

- I like that music but it's not really so I want to sound. You were a little nervous about how Patrik thought. But I still felt safe with him because he was clear that he did not want to change my sound but rather see how to develop it.

- I hope it doesn't sound too different. I hope it's still me, or I am. My voice is still in focus but everything around it has blossomed out a bit more.

The songs have got more bass, more drums, more reverb and more layers. But Alice Boman's delicate and slightly cautious voice is similar.

- It's so funny, people joke about it sometimes. You have to raise the microphone very much because I almost sit and whisper. But that's where my position is, I have no strong voice. Although it's nice that it can still be perceived as strong, because of the feeling, she says.

No sacrifice

But musically, the 10s have largely been the decade of the strong women, artists such as Beyoncé, Zara Larsson and Nicki Minaj have stood for a kind of fuck-off feminism with the message of putting themselves first. That is to say, quite far from Alice Boman's texts and expressions.

- I have definitely felt that you have to be strong and independent of others, and especially of guys.

Have you known anyone's fear of being perceived as outdated or un-humanistic for writing about being sad and missing someone?

- Yes, but maybe a little. And that people should feel sorry for one, that one is a victim in some way. And I am not, you are not. It all happens and it feels so important to be able to highlight it and that it is not something to be ashamed of.

- Love is to be emotionally dependent on someone else, to open up and to be weak. It's a balance.
