Mr. Kurio retires to the top of the National Police Agency.Replaces Mr. Matsumoto on Jan. 14, 11:17.

The National Police Agency, Secretary Shunichi Kuryu, has retired, and Mitsuhiro Matsumoto, the deputy director, has become the 28th Secretary.

Kurio, 61, of the National Police Agency, joined the National Police Agency in 1981, having served as chief of the Tokushima Prefectural Police and Chief of Criminal Affairs of the National Police Agency, and was appointed Secretary of State.

During his tenure at the Tokyo Olympic and Paralympic Games, he worked on countermeasures against terrorism and cyber attacks, and commanded a series of ceremonies following the throne of the Emperor and the G20 Summit held in Osaka.

We have also promoted measures to reduce traffic accidents, such as compiling a policy for amending the law to introduce new licenses for elderly drivers and others.

Mr. Mitsuhiro Matsumoto, Deputy Director of the National Police Agency (58) will take over. Mr. Matsumoto joined the agency in 1983. At the time of the Great East Japan Earthquake, he was the head of the Fukushima Prefectural Police, directing search activities and reconstruction.

He has served as Director of Foreign Affairs and Security Bureau at the National Police Agency, and has long worked in public safety and international terrorism countermeasures.

The HR will be announced on the 17th of this month.
