Barcelona's campaign to defend the title of the modified version of the Spanish Super Cup, hosted by Saudi Arabia, faced misfortune after the team arrived late to a training session in Jeddah on Wednesday.

Sources in Barcelona said that the team's bus driver took an incorrect path, and headed the team to King Abdullah Sports City, which hosts the championship confrontations.

Barcelona had been scheduled to prepare for Thursday's semi-final clash with Atletico Madrid, with training at Etihad.

The two stadiums are more than 30 km away from each other. The team bus finally arrived at the training site 45 minutes late due to the traffic jam in the coastal city.

Coach Ernesto Valverde and midfielder Sergio Busquets were to appear at a press conference before the session, but they will speak to the media later due to late arrival.

Last November, an agreement was announced to establish the championship in Saudi Arabia for a period of three years. Spanish media reported that the agreement generates an annual income of 40 million euros (44 million dollars). This infuriated human rights groups as well as groups of the four publics.
