Paris police on Friday shot a man who attacked several passers-by with a knife in the Villjoyev park in the south of the French capital.

"One person was killed and several others were injured in the attack this afternoon, but the police were not able to confirm the death or the number of people injured," Vincent Johnbron, mayor of "La Ha Lei Rose" told BFM-TV.
The mayor added that the police shot the attacker after he escaped from the park to a shopping mall in his area, "No, it's Lee Rose."

A police union official said the police repeatedly shot the attacker because she was afraid he might have an explosive belt, and he might detonate himself, Bloomberg News reported.

The police said that the attacker was "neutralized", meaning that he was under control, but could not confirm his death.
