A former employee of a data erasure company arrested for taking out another disk was charged with theft because of a problem in which a hard disk of the Kanagawa Prefectural Office containing a large amount of personal information was exhibited at an online auction and leaked.

Yuichi Takahashi (51), a former employee of "Blow Drinks" in Chuo-ku, Tokyo, who was charged with disposing of the hard disk of the Kanagawa Prefectural Office, was charged.

Defendant Takahashi was charged with theft on the 3rd of this month for allegedly stealing another 12 hard disks from his office in Ota-ku, Tokyo.

In response to a survey by the Metropolitan Police Department so far, Takahashi has stated that he had taken out a hard disk for sale at an auction about three years ago. He earned about 10 million yen at an auction.

The 18 hard disks used in the Kanagawa Prefectural Office were exhibited and sold at online auctions, but depending on the prefecture, all were collected so far and no information was leaked.

The Metropolitan Police Department will investigate the case of taking out the hard disk of Kanagawa Prefectural Office in the future.
