The Governing Council of the Region of Murcia has approved in its session this Thursday the Decree Law Comprehensive Protection of the Mar Menor, which will collect sanctions of up to 500,000 euros, as advanced by a press conference the Minister of Agriculture and Environment, Antonio Luengo, who has specified that said decree has a sanctioning and control regime.

Luengo, who has appeared at the press conference of the Governing Council accompanied by the spokeswoman for the Executive, Ana Martínez Vidal, has sent a message to the parties with parliamentary representation, to which he said that "the purpose of the Decree is to achieve the lagoon recovery on a comprehensive approach. "

"On the Mar Menor converge a plurality of uses that must be ordered and only if they harmonize in a sustainable way will recover," said the counselor, who said that what is intended is "order and control, in a more exhaustive way , the activity that surrounds the Mar Menor and recover its status, regulate the different activities "such as livestock, agriculture, tourism and leisure, fishing or mining, among others.

The society "has sent us a clear message, to recover the lagoon, and it is our task, there are no partisan policies or interests in this way and nobody will understand the vetoes to a law as necessary as this one", it has indicated.

Involvement of the State and other organizations

The roadmap is "clear," Luengo has stressed, although he considers that the involvement of the State and agencies in this regard, such as the CHS, is necessary. "They cannot remain impassive in this situation, since the main pressures that the Mar Menor receives today and jeopardize their balance is that the water table is still very high and there are tons of sediments that enter the lagoon in each of these episodes, "he said.

After making it clear that with this Decree Law only the Mar Menor will not be able to recover, it has highlighted the need for the State to "do its homework" for the recovery of the lagoon and implement the measures included in the project of discharge 0.

In his opinion, "we must all be part of the solution of the Mar Menor" , so this decree "was not the exclusive task of the regional government, but we had to listen to everyone and have everyone, there have been 69 meetings, 56 entities , associations, parties, organization and representatives of sectors, in addition to the Monitoring Commission ".

He also regretted that the PSOE "delivered its proposals after the deadline; could contribute its initiatives last Monday."
