Star Wars: Skywalker. Sunrise ”is the final episode of the third movie franchise trilogy and the end of the Skywalker saga. The film by JJ Abrams completes the story of a family whose story was at the center of the plot of eight previous films, starting with the classic episodes filmed in the 1970s and ending with the penultimate part that was released in 2017.

Since the plot details were kept in the strictest confidence, a synopsis for the new picture was not published. However, some hints of key events hit the trailers. From the videos it was possible to conclude that in Voskhod the resistance was preparing for the final battle with the army of the ruling forces, and the main character, Ray, was facing a personal battle. Also, shortly before the release, the creators of Star Wars admitted that the main antagonist of the previous parts, Palpatine, will return to the franchise.

Although Ray's story resembles the adventures of Luke Skywalker, the plot engine in the new film is more likely not a confusing balance of power (as in the fifth episode, when it turned out that Luke’s opponent is his father), but the development of the characters of the central characters, their inner struggle and personal choice.

About whom the new Star Wars

Director JJ Abrams warned that in the final part he would summarize the entire Skywalker saga - and he succeeded. The tape completes almost all the storylines and in general is in the nature of a tribute.

A lot of screen time was devoted to Carrie Fisher: although the episodes with her participation are mounted on footage taken for previous parts, the scriptwriters managed to bring the story of Princess Leia to completion without any apparent dramatic losses. The memory of the actress was honored with due respect.

The shooting was attended by other representatives of the classical composition. Among them - played by Luke Skywalker Mark Hamill and Billy Dee Williams in the role of Lando Calrissian.

Landscapes of planets, artifacts and even living creatures are sent to past films of the viewer. So, characters appear in the frame, reminiscent of the Ewok cubs from the forest satellite of Endor (they helped the main characters in the final battles of the second trilogy). Viewers will see the ruins of the Death Star, the famous X-wing fighter on which Luke Skywalker flew, and other relics of the cinema universe.

For especially devoted fans, the authors left the Easter Egg bigger: the heroes will go to the forefathers' holiday (by the way, reminiscent of the real Burning man festival of contemporary art), which takes place every 42 years - exactly so many years have passed since the first film was released, “Star war. Episode IV - A New Hope. ”

However, the filmmakers were somewhat deceitful, promising that all the secrets of the saga would be revealed. So, neither the audience nor the heroes of the tape will find out what Finn wanted to say to Ray at the moment of danger - and then changed his mind.

In addition, several previously unreported characters have appeared in the new film, the stories of which franchise fans will clearly want to learn more. Viewers will see Poe Dameron's old acquaintances - the dangerous girl Zori and the creature of the unknown race Babbu Free. It also turns out that Finn was not the only attacker-deserter to go over to the resistance. And even in the team of robots replenishment will occur: the droids owned by the Imperials will join the droids.

Since new films will be devoted to the history of completely different people, the appearance of these characters in them is unlikely. However, it is possible that the stories of the heroes will be developed in the Legends of Star Wars, an expanded universe that includes books, cartoons, comics and more.

Themes in the spotlight

In the center of the final part of the trilogy is the theme of kinship. As expected, the film reveals the mystery of Ray's origin. This line combines the film with the classic episodes (fourth through sixth). The first three parts of the questions taken at the turn of the 1990s and 2000s did not raise questions - the identity of Luke Skywalker's father was clear by default.

Moreover, in the new film, the creators continue the conflict set in The Awakening of Power: the contradiction of family ties and personal aspirations is transformed, but does not disappear.

The theme of overcoming fear also comes to the fore: now it extends not only to Ray, who is trying to resist the dark side of the Force, but to almost the entire galaxy. In order not to succumb to decadent moods, the heroes by all means support each other morally, try not to lose hope.

The presence of religious motives in the picture is not hidden from the attention of the audience. Scriptwriters emphasized the importance of the Force as a cult uniting people and other creatures. Ray in this concept takes the place of the Savior, and her superpowers echo biblical stories. The tape will even sound a direct quote from the Gospel: "Rise and go."

Of course, the feminist line given by the last trilogy will not go anywhere. The focus does not shift to Kylo Ren, Ray remains the main character. Moreover, as she learns about the past of her family, her character becomes more complex, and she develops her own life experience. Princess Leia is also working on this agenda. In the movie Skywalker. Sunrise ”focuses on the fact that she is also a Jedi Master. Previously, this detail of Leia’s biography was mentioned in franchise comics, but now it was clearly shown in the movies. Thus, in the new tape, both the teacher and the Jedi apprentice are women.

From other parts of the Skywalker franchise. Sunrise ”is fundamentally distinguished by the gloomy tone of the narrative and the corresponding visual design. The episodes of the 1970s and then the 2000s were characterized by a different style - tragic events were shaded by blooming, sunny landscapes, and in the first films on the internal chronology of the universe, bright computer graphics attracted the eye.

Development in this direction went from the seventh, but fans of the saga may raise the question of the appropriateness of this approach. On the one hand, it meets general trends, but we are talking about the established universe with its own traditions that cannot be ignored.

It is noteworthy that such emotional stress, as in the ninth episode, perhaps, can not be found in any of the previous parts of the franchise. It was achieved, among other things, due to the deep (of course, within the framework of the format) psychologism, spiced with a considerable share of tragedy. Such a reading is likely to resonate with the audience, whose childhood coincided with the release of the first episodes about Anakin Skywalker: after all, it is the audience that, from a young age, watched the adventures of several generations of heroes, is better than others ready to accept and comprehend such a finale.
