SCB Auctions officials specializing in selling sporting memorabilia have announced the sale of the racket that the American baseball player used to score his 500 hit in 1929 million and $ 800,000.

Roth, best known for his powerful strikes, gifted this racket to a friend in the 1940s. SCB said the racket was sold at an auction in California to a buyer whose identity was not revealed.

This follows the sale of a racket that Roth, famously known as "Sultan of Violence", had used in 1923 in his first full-blown stroke at the Yankee Stadium.

Roth was ranked as the best baseball player ever in many ratings and polls and was chosen by The Sporting News magazine to top the list of "100 Greatest Baseball Players".

Babe Ruth died more than 70 years ago.
