An attempt to reduce so-called “food loss” was made in Ikoma City, Nara Prefecture. .

“Troc” (TROC) was conducted in accordance with the flea market that Ikoma City regularly opens in the sense of bartering in French.

“Food Tlock” targets unopened foods and drinks within the expiry date excluding fresh food such as retort foods, canned foods, and dried foods.

Participants selected and exchanged the same number of items as they brought in, and there were people who brought in nearly 20 items such as beer and cup miso soup.

A woman in her twenties from Mie Prefecture said, “I participated because I thought it was interesting because of a rare effort.

A woman in her fifties in Ikoma said, “I don't drink alcohol and brought beer. I think it ’s a good thing to throw it away.”

According to Ikoma City, it is rare for local governments to work on “food trok”.

“I was worried about the first attempt, but it was good that there were many participants. I would like to continue to focus on reducing food loss.”
