COP25 Ministerial Meeting Minister Koizumi “Proactive Message” December 10, 18:59
The UN conference “COP25”, which discusses global warming countermeasures, began a ministerial meeting on the 10th. Prior to the meeting, Minister Koizumi said, “I want to give a positive message as much as possible” and emphasized the idea of appealing the approach after receiving criticism of the use of coal-fired power generation.
“COP25”, which is held in Spain with more than 190 countries and territories, was held on the 10th.
At the meeting, before the “Paris Agreement”, the international framework for global warming countermeasures, begins next year, negotiations will begin in earnest regarding the rules that have not yet been agreed to be implemented. The focus will also be on whether or not the reduction targets can be matched.
Secretary General Espinosa of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change attended, saying, “There will be 2020 in the next few weeks. Opportunities to stop climate change will soon be gone. Your decision and leadership are needed.” We urged ministers to strengthen measures.
As for Japan, international criticism is growing for continuing to use coal-fired power generation that emits a large amount of carbon dioxide.
Before the meeting, Minister Koizumi told reporters, “I think it ’s very important this time not to escape from the criticism of coal-fired power generation, but to face it from the front. I would like to give a message, ”and emphasized the idea of appealing the approach after receiving criticism.
The COP25 ministerial meeting will continue until the 13th of this month.
