Suddenly, Jeremy Irons (Isle of Wight, 1948). When nobody, not Loles León, had one of the most emblematic actors of the 80s and 90s, a series ( Watchmen , by Damon Lindelof) and a documentary ( Painters and Kings of the Prado , by Sabina Fedelli and Valeria Parisi) put him in The center of all eyes. In one of the noblest rooms of the Prado Museum and in front of Goya's Wedding , the one that was Charles Ryder in Return to Brideshead reflects ... on what? It doesn't matter, reflect.

"Art shakes the dust that everyday life leaves in the soul." With this phrase of Picasso ends the documentary. What does art mean to you? [Long silence] Art serves to take you to a different place. It puts you before the possibility of a different life. Or, better, it allows you to contemplate your own life from outside and perhaps more clearly. Painting such as literature or cinema serves the same purpose. In addition, art creates a sense of community and allows you to get closer to others in a more honest way. Any art form makes you imagine yourself in the skin of another person and that ennobles you, it improves you. I imagine you are defining precisely the profession of actor ... Yes, I can not agree more with Picasso. Each paper is an opportunity to look at you from a distance. It is a good remedy against madness. Or crazy or actor, is not a bad dilemma. The documentary meticulously analyzes the relationship between power and art. But can art really change reality? Does art make us better? It is probably part of the nature of the process to make mistakes. But that doesn't mean we have to stop trying. I don't understand. Yes, life is about suffering, about how to overcome problems, about working hard to feel ourselves. And that's where art plays a role. I refuse to believe that art does not make us better. It does not make us perfect, but it does better. History proves it. Life right now is infinitely better than 200 years ago. In every sense. Yes, we have made many mistakes along the way, but there is no reason for pessimism. He knows that he is in Madrid in full conference for Climate Change ... It is a demonstration of the mistakes we make by plundering the Earth ... Yes, many mistakes , but you see people in the street asking for a radical change to preserve the future and there is hope. It takes time to do things. I think we have deviated from the subject ... What have you learned from this documentary? I had been to Madrid a couple of times before, but I had never been too interested in Spanish history and art. Let's say this movie has been like receiving a master class. It is also a lesson about Europe and about how Europe, in some way, shares a story, an art and a destiny. How do you think that different arts such as painting and interpretation are connected and influenced? All the arts deal with the same thing: of communication between men. Human passions are the same in a painting by Goya and in a play by Shakespeare. The two, for example, talk about power. And, in any case, all works of art reflect their time. Decades ago they gained popularity with a television series, 'Return to Brideshead', now returns with 'Watchmen', how has television changed from then to now? Brideshead was a pioneer at the time. And now, instead, we live an authentic explosion of the series. But from the point of view of the actor, the motivation is the same. I am not going to hide that I have also done things for financial reasons, but in general I do what catches my attention and what I see that can teach me something about myself. Did you know the 'Watchmen' comic before making the series? Not at all. Neither that nor any. Then I did read it. And I was surprised. Anyway, what I liked about the series is that it deals with very contemporary problems such as racism. The graphic novel is nothing more than an excuse to build a completely different story. How many chapters have already been broadcast? Six. The most surprising is missing. How do you see the changes and transformations in current TV and film? With concern. It would be impossible to make some of the best movies I made long ago. I think of Wound , of Louis Malle or Inseparabales , of David Cronenberg. However good series are made, nothing can replace the experience of sharing a movie with other people in a room.Any favorite painter? Goya. But with painting it happens as with music, it depends on the time of day, the mood ...
