“Lake Akan” has been designated as a national special natural monument and protected, but the growth of the lake's aquatic plants has been disturbing due to the rapid increase in the number of aquatic plants in the lake for about 10 years. The
Yoichi Oyama of Kushiro City Marimo Laboratory said, “Lake Akan has a rare marimo community in the world. I hope many people will come to see it next year.”
The total number of marimo returned to the lake is 111, which means that it will be lifted in April next year under the frozen lake surface and exhibited again.
