According to Dmitry Lisitsyn, head of the Ekovakhta Sakhalin organization, walrus cubs who have not reached the age of two years have been "kept captive in a completely closed metal hangar without access to sunlight" and "in tiny pools" for almost a year. Lisitsyn added that the animals "are constantly shouting."

Representatives of an environmental organization asked the prosecutor's office to check reports of illegal fishing and keeping walruses, as well as to determine how many animals were in Srednyaya Bay.

At the same time, a representative of the Vladivostok Environmental Protection Prosecutor's Office said that in connection with this situation, an audit was organized, which will be completed before December 13.

In February, the Russian Investigative Committee for the Khabarovsk Territory opened a criminal case on animal cruelty after checking the conditions of keeping killer whales and belugas in Primorye.

On November 10, the last beluga whales from the “whale prison” in Primorye were released.
