Eleven people have been killed in Typhoon Kamuri, which has displaced about half a million people, while dozens of homes and other infrastructure, including an airport, were damaged by the typhoon winds, according to police and disaster relief officials.

The meteorological agency said that "Kamuri" - which was accompanied by winds with a maximum speed of 100 km per hour and storms at a speed of 125 km - weakened to the level of a tropical storm after it hit the Philippines.

More than 520 domestic and international flights were canceled due to the closure of Manila's Ninoy Aquino International Airport for 12 hours yesterday before authorities reopened it today.
