Museum director Joerg Drieselmann tells the German daily Der Tagesspiegel that one of the stolen medals is a Karl Marx order, which was East Germany's most important order of merit.

The Stasi Museum, also known as Forschungs- und Gedenkstätte Normannenstrasse, is both a museum and a research center, located in the building that used to be Stasis's headquarters in the Lichtenberg district of Berlin.

It is the second notable burglary at a museum in Germany this past week. On November 25, jewelry and other treasures, which are said to be worth up to the equivalent of SEK 10 billion, were stolen from the museum Grünes Gewölbe (the green vault) in Dresden.
