After the experiment with the book dog Teodora, it has become time for the reading robot Bibi to take a seat at the City Library in Stockholm - and that for a cost of SEK 200,000. The purpose is to use digital aids to encourage children to read.

- We raise the children's curiosity, says Gustav Nygren, librarian and project manager for the robot initiative, to the Culture News.

Made a success with preschoolers

The robot Bibi made great success with a group of preschool children who happened to come by the City Library in connection with the visit of the Cultural News. But the target group is quite different from the one the project is aimed at: second-graders who may have difficulty reading aloud to adults.

However, 8-year-old Erik Bolin is not very impressed by Bibi. A big minus is the robot only has a single book to offer: Charlie, Charlie, are you there? by Catherine Genar and Alexander Jansson.

It is unclear if, and if so, when more books may be loaded into the robot. Erik Bolin thinks that is bad.

"Very boring"

The idea is that Bibi will visit other libraries in the municipality, but Erik Bolin has already decided. He does not intend to retest

- Because it's a robot that's just pi-on-pa-pa. Very boring, he tells Culture News.

But Gustav Nygren believes in Bibi.

- I can't claim that every child will find it funny with the robot, but I have noticed that many people find it very fun and exciting, he says.
