Established a study group to prevent damage from online shopping problems Consumer Affairs Agency December 3 12:55

Since the number of troubles with online shopping has increased, the Consumer Affairs Agency has set up a study group to discuss the ideal way of a company called “Platformer” that provides a place for transactions such as online shopping malls to prevent damage. We decided to proceed with the creation of a mechanism for this.

This was clarified by the Minister of Consumer Affairs at a conference after the cabinet meeting on the 3rd.

According to the Consumer Affairs Agency, there are over 250,000 consultations regarding problems related to transactions over the Internet, such as “a product purchased online was a fake”, and about 70,500 in five years. Is increasing.

In the background, it seems that online shopping has become more familiar, and the “Flea Market App” that sells and purchases goods among individuals is likely to spread, and there are concerns that further trouble will increase in the future.

The newly established study group is necessary to protect the way of information provision and consumers for companies called “platformers” that provide trading opportunities such as online shopping malls and flea market apps. It's about discussing legislation.

Members are university professors and lawyers who are familiar with consumer issues, and the policy is to compile the content by next summer.

“The online trade is expanding rapidly, so we need to deepen consumer protection. We want to work with related ministries and agencies,” says Mr. Eto.
