In a notice published Wednesday, the National AIDS Council is lambasting the fight against AIDS in France, with a current situation "unacceptable". This is due to "delays", "weaknesses" and "failing results" in screening and prevention of this disease, which is struggling to retreat.

What is wrong with the fight against AIDS? According to an opinion of the National AIDS Council published Wednesday, French efforts to try to reduce this disease are not enough. The independent commission points to "delays," "weaknesses," and "results that fail" in this fight. "The current situation is unacceptable while all the tools to stop the epidemic are available, whether it is testing for HIV or treatments in their various preventive uses," she criticizes.

In concrete terms, the National AIDS Council (CNS) criticizes the health authorities for the excessive number of HIV infections in France, 35 years after the discovery of this AIDS virus. According to the figures of Public Health France, 6,200 people discovered their seropositivity in 2018.

Too few screenings

Admittedly, this figure is down 7% in one year. But the situation remains catastrophic among migrant populations and homosexuals, since according to the epidemic data, they represent, by far, the majority of new cases of contamination.

The CNS also criticizes the lack of screening, which does not allow France to reach its goal of diagnosing 95% of infected people by 2020. By comparison, the United Kingdom sees a drop of 28 % of new HIV cases.
