Playground equipment floating on the water To examine measures to prevent recurrence of pool accident Consumer Affairs Agency November 28, 16:57

In August, the Consumer Affairs Agency's Safety Investigation Committee, the so-called “Consumer Accident”, floats on the surface of the water in response to an accident in which an elementary school girl died under playground equipment that floated on the surface of water in a pool in Nerima-ku, Tokyo. We decided to investigate the actual situation of playground equipment accidents and to consider measures to prevent recurrence.

In August, a third-year elementary school girl drowned in a pool-like playground equipment floating on the surface of water in the pool of Toshimaen, an amusement park in Nerima-ku, Tokyo.

With regard to this accident, it is possible that similar accidents will occur in the future, so we decided to start an investigation into the actual situation of accidents drowning in playground equipment floating on the water surface.

According to consumer accidents, there were at least 31 pools and beaches nationwide with playground equipment floating on the water surface, but there are currently no safety standards for playground equipment on the water.

In addition to analyzing the detailed cause of the accident, the survey will ask the industry groups of playground equipment and the operators of the installation facilities to find out when the accident is likely to occur.

In the case of consumer accidents, by the summer of next year when the number of visitors to the pool and the sea will increase, the policy is to provide recommendations that will help prevent recurrence.

“The playground equipment floating on the water has increased in recent years, but I do not know the risks clearly, so I would like to investigate thoroughly.”
