Egypt launched its first communications satellite "Thebes 1" yesterday evening, through the French company "Ariane Space" on the launch missile Ariane-5 from the launch base in the French region of Guyana, South America, according to state television reported on its website.

The satellite aims to provide commercial, government and broadband Internet services within Egypt, some Nile Basin countries and African and Arab countries in Asia.

"Thebes 1" is planned to last for more than 15 years, Egyptian television added.

The launch was postponed twice as it was originally scheduled for Friday.

The company "Ariane Space" that its missile No. 250 "Ariane" was launched from the space port of Kourou in French Guiana.

The Ariane 5 missile was launched after a 20-minute delay due to what Ariane Space described as "unusual in the power source."

The rocket, along with the Egyptian satellite, carries another Inmarsat satellite.

Arians Peace is expected to launch the next generation Ariane 6 in 2020.
