Freshly baked saury Furuma marathon meet Reiko Chiba November 17 18:22

A unique marathon event was held in Choshi City, Chiba Prefecture where freshly baked saury was served to the contestants.

Choshi City is home to Choshi Fishing Port, which boasts the largest amount of landed fish in Japan. Every year during this time, the Choshi Sanma Marathon is held to serve participants with charcoal grilled saury.

This time around 3,000 runners from all over the country participated and ran along the scenic coastline course.

Along the water supply station along the road, we have a special soy sauce rice cake, and the runners aimed for the goal with the support of citizens.

At the goal, about 6000 frozen saury were prepared, and when local volunteers were served charcoal-burned saury, the runners and the families who came to cheer were overwhelmed.

The fact is that the amount of saury landings has been sluggish at Choshi fishing port, which is less than 10% of last year.

A man in his 70s in Chiba City said, “I participated with my family and friends, and this was my third time. I heard that it was frozen saury, but it was delicious with fat.” It was.

A woman in her twenties from Ibaraki Prefecture said, “I ate saury after a long time, but it was very delicious.”
