“Amami Shikawa frog”, which is only found in Amami Oshima, Kagoshima Prefecture and is also called “the most beautiful frog in Japan”, is on display at the Kagoshima Prefectural Museum.

The Amamiikawa frog is an endemic species that only inhabits Amami Oshima and has been designated as an endangered species by the Ministry of the Environment.

The green body has a mottled pattern of black and gold, and the eyes are gold. It is said to be “the most beautiful frog in Japan” because of its mysterious appearance in the night forest.

The Kagoshima Prefectural Museum in Kagoshima City, with the permission of the Ministry of the Environment and the prefecture to deepen their understanding of the rare species of Amami, received four animals raised and bred for research at Hiroshima University. The exhibition started from the day.

On the 14th, visiting elementary school students looked for a frog with a length of about 10 centimeters hidden in the shadow of the aquarium.

A sixth grader who visited Miyazaki on a school trip said, “I didn't know there was such a big and unusual frog in Kagoshima.”

Mr. Toshihito Ike, the chief curator of the Kagoshima Prefectural Museum, said, “This is a rare frog that can hardly be seen in other areas, so please take this opportunity.”
