Scientists at Queen's University in Belfast have found that drinking coffee regularly can cut the risk of liver cancer in half.

The website "Russia Today" that the scientific team is conducting in more than seven years a study involving about 472 thousand people, more than 75% of them drink coffee regularly.

During this period, the researchers discovered that 3.5 thousand participants had malignancies, including 88 cases of liver cancer.

The results of the study showed that coffee lovers regularly were 50% less likely to develop this disease than others.

Participants who regularly drank coffee smoked and drank more alcohol than others and had a higher cholesterol level in their blood than other people, the researchers note.

According to scientists, the positive effect of coffee in the body can be explained by the fact that it contains antioxidants and caffeine.

However, scientists emphasize that a healthy lifestyle plays a major role in the emergence of malignant tumors.

"Coffee intake does not protect against liver cancer at the same level as smoking cessation, reducing alcohol consumption and reducing body weight," says researcher Kim To Tran.
