"Week to think about tax" Children experience reduced tax rate November 11, 13:10

In conjunction with the “Tax Week,” an event for children to experience the work of the tax office is held at a vocational-experience theme park in Tokyo.

This event is being held at KidZania Tokyo, an occupational experience-type theme park in Koto-ku, Tokyo, in conjunction with the “Week of Tax Consideration” that began on the 11th.

A temporary “Tax Office” will be set up at the venue, and the person in charge will explain the mechanism of the “reduced tax rate” introduced in response to the increase in the consumption tax rate to 10%. I learned that it would be 8% except when eating and drinking.

The children then visited the store in the facility, experienced a tax investigation, asked the store clerk to submit a book, checked the amount of sales and purchases, and calculated whether the consumption tax was correctly declared.

They also received a receipt from the store clerk and confirmed whether the consumption tax was calculated at the cash register corresponding to the reduced tax rate.

A 6th grade boy who participated said, “It was easy to calculate the consumption tax itself, but it was difficult to determine whether the tax rate was correct, and it was difficult to check whether the tax return was correct.”

This event is held at KidZania Tokyo until 17th of this month.
