Netflix announced that it will discontinue its services on a number of older devices, including some smart TVs, such as Samsung smartphones and old Vizio TVs, as well as devices based on the first generation Roku system.

"If you are still using one of these devices, starting December 1, you will need to buy a new streaming device or replace the current one with a newer model," Netflix said.

The announcement was confirmed by Samsung, which reported that Netflix service was discontinued on older smart TVs, which were produced between 2010 and 2011, because of what it called "technical limitations."

Vizio also said its 4-year-olds will no longer support Netflix.

It is expected that users of the target devices will face a message on the screens of their devices, announcing that the Netflix service is permanently discontinued.

Support for older TVs is more problematic than phones or tablets because people tend to use TVs longer than other devices such as smartphones or laptops.

Earlier this year, Hulu stopped supporting LG TVs manufactured before 2014, and YouTube in 2016 dropped support for Sony TVs in 2012.
