Rare turtle mass theft from zoo Okinawa 6 November 08:08

Late last month, a zoo official found out that over 60 rare turtles such as national natural monuments were stolen at a zoo in Okinawa.

A total of 64 animals were stolen, including the national natural monument Ryukyu turtle that was bred in the Okinawa Children's Country at the zoo in Okinawa City.

According to zoo officials, the keeper noticed that some of the turtle cages were cut by someone on the 28th of last month.

After that, I confirmed that 15 Ryukyu turtles and 49 rare Chinese turtles from China were stolen.

When the keeper confirmed this morning, there was no abnormality.

Ryukyu turtles are subject to the Washington Convention, which regulates wildlife trade, but they are sold at high prices in domestic and overseas black markets. Hmm.

The zoo will report damage to the police and review the management system.
