The Hamdan Bin Mohammed Center for Heritage Revival celebrated the winners of the third short story competition yesterday.

The CEO of the Center, Abdullah Hamdan bin Dalmouk, honored the winners during a special ceremony held at the Center's stand at the Sharjah International Book Fair in the presence of a number of officials, parents, students and attendees. He won from Al-Razi School for Basic Education in the first category - Children Stories (12-14 years): Abdulrahman Mohammed Hamza for the story of «beautiful past», Saif Mohammed al-Shamsi for the story «Saif Ould Nokhatha», and in the second category - stories emerging (15 - 17 Mohammad Hamed Al Hashimi from Al Ittihad School won the first place for the Challenge story and Fatima Mukhtar Al Qadi from Maria Coptic Secondary School won the second place for “Tales of My Grandfather” and Mahmoud Sadek Al Rayes from Dubai International School won the third place. It reinforces the importance of Arabic at the level of students and public and private schools in Dubai.

"I love writing, and my grandfather, a poet and teacher of Arabic, is my role model," said Mohammed Al Hashemi, a student from the 11th grade at the Al Ittihad School. His dream was to become the first astronaut in the world and the dream came true, accompanied by a group of friends who were asked to take the challenge of defining their homelands on earth. The Center launched the third edition of the short story competition, in March, aimed at students of public and private schools who are talented in writing, in cooperation with Dubai Educational Zone, and selected 10 schools.

During the ceremony, schools were honored: Al Razi for Basic Education - Boys, Al Ittihad Private, Maria Coptic Secondary School for Girls and Dubai International.

The competition targets school students from two different age groups: the second cycle «12-14 years» and the secondary stage «15-17 years». The short story competition is an annual event organized by the Hamdan bin Mohammed Center for the Revival of Heritage, in coordination with Dubai Education Zone. The winning stories are published in a book titled "Book of the Prize," and collects the distinctive stories of students. The competition was launched for the first time in 2016, in support of the Hamdan Bin Mohammed Center for the revival of heritage for the initiative «2016 .. Year of Reading».

The competition aims to encourage students to acquire knowledge and to shed light on the importance of Arabic as an intellectual and cultural pot for future generations.
