US President Donald Trump underestimated the Democratic presidential candidate, Beto O'Rourke, after announcing his withdrawal from the presidential race, using a derogatory term.

Trump said of O'Rourke that he "withdrew like a dog."

O'Rourke, a congressman from Texas, is known for his strong criticism of Trump since the mass shooting in his home town of El Paso in August.

He described the killing as a result of Trump's "anti-immigrant" speech.

O'Rourke announced Friday that he was pulling out of the White House race because his campaign "does not have the means to succeed."

It was the second time Trump used the word "dog" in a few days.
