Steven Jörsäter is a Swedish Democrat and a member of the Täby Culture and Leisure Committee. In a letter addressed to, among others, the municipal management and the library manager, he invited the library management to cancel the author interview with Moa-Lina Olbers Croall. He believes that the event emphasizes norm criticism and that the municipality of Täby should not provide premises and use tax money for such events.

“We criticize the norms or question the obvious relationship between man and woman and our gender identities as destructive. This is not how Täby Municipality should contribute to this, ”writes Steven Jörsäter, among others in the letter.

"If we start politicizing content then it becomes dangerous"

The chairman of the Culture and Leisure Committee Birgitta Kaasik (M) does not at all share Steven Jörsäter's view that the conversation should be canceled.

- I will always stand up for the free word. We certainly do not share SD's view that you should strangle the free word, because that is exactly what he wants to do, says Birgitta Kaasik.

In the letter, Steven Jörsäter also urges the library management to flag for points they think may be perceived as controversial in advance. Something Birgitta Kaasik is doubtful about.

- The libraries will be able to manage their own program activities, I trust the officials very much. If we start politicizing content, it becomes dangerous, ”she says.

The politicians must trust the officials

The library manager at Täby, Malin Törnquist, sees Steven Jörsäter's calls to suspend the conversation with Moa-Lina Olber's Croall and to flag "controversial points" in the program as very problematic in the future.

- What is controversial is very much dependent on who you are. And it is not the task of politics to control the library's program activities, says Malin Törnquist and continues:

- Politicians must trust that the officials can do their job. We are tasked with reflecting a breadth, and we do this with a very mixed program activity for all ages with different types of writers.

"Library operations are very important"

The author interview with Moa-Lina Olber's Croall happened as planned on Monday despite Steven Jörsäter's call to cancel it.

- It went very well, it was packed and it was a nice and warm atmosphere. So I'm very glad I did. Library operations are very important, says Moa-Lina Olbers Croall.

Steven Jörsäter does not want to comment on either the letter or the criticism received against it.
