As part of breaking the silence around menswear, mensemojin, in the form of a drop of blood, is now launched in the latest update of the Iphone operating system, writes the children's rights organization Plan, which initiated emojin, in a press release.

Even though more than half of the earth's population is menstruating, there are still deeply rooted prejudices and notions of menstruation as something shameful and dirty. This poses major problems for women and girls worldwide, says Mariann Eriksson.

A deeply rooted stigma

- In many countries, girls are seen as ready to get married when they get their first period, which is completely unacceptable. No girl should have to stay home from school, be bullied or have her life ruined because of something as natural as menses, she says.

This is where Plan hopes that the menswear can be a way to make it easier to talk about menses.

- It is a step on the road to breaking the silence and stigma around men, says Mariann Eriksson.
