The past 24 hours have been somewhat confusing for Game of Thrones fans.

First came the message that HBO had laid down plans for an intended sequel to the series. That sequel would take place thousands of years before the original series. A pilot episode had already been recorded with, among others, Naomi Watts in one of the roles - when HBO is reported to have pulled off the carpet for the plans.

Focus on Targaryen

But before the fans had been able to mourn clearly in social media, a whole new message came during the night to Wednesday Swedish time.

Instead of the planned sequel, HBO has now ordered ten episodes of a completely different sequel.

The new sequel will be called "House of the Dragon". It is based on George RR Martin's book "Fire & Blood: The History of the Targary House" and takes place 300 years before the events of the original series. The new sequel will focus on the Targaryen family's time in power.

Game of Thrones was made in eight seasons and was featured on SVT Play, among other things. The series has set several records - with 161 Emmy nominations, it is among other things the drama series that has received the most Emmy nominations of all time.
