Xosé Manuel Núñez Seixas has been awarded the National Prize for Literature in his essay modality, corresponding to 2019, for his work Suspiros de España. Spanish nationalism 1808-2018 . The prize, awarded by the Ministry of Culture and Sports, is endowed with 20,000 euros .
The jury has chosen this work "for tracing a history of Spanish nationalism in its various currents and manifestations throughout the Contemporary Age. Being a work that relies on a dense research trajectory, it stands out for its effort of synthesis and expository clarity, as well as its rigor. "
Nuñez Seixas (Ourense, 1966) is a professor in Contemporary History by the European University Institute of Florence, Professor of Contemporary History at the University of Santiago de Compostela (on leave) and, since October 2012, Professor of Contemporary History of Europe at the Ludwig-Maximilian University of Munich.
