Hog cholera vaccination October 27th 17:16 starting in Gunma Prefecture

As swine cholera infection spreads, in Gunma Prefecture, the largest number of pigs in the Kanto region, vaccination of pigs to prevent infection began on the 7th.

Because there is no stopping the spread of swine cholera infection, the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries has designated 11 prefectures where wild boar infection has been confirmed for vaccination.

In response, Gunma Prefecture began vaccination on the 27th, targeting approximately 630,000 pigs bred in the prefecture.

On the 27th, veterinarians visited six pig farms in Fujioka City, which are within a radius of 10 km from where wild boars that were confirmed to be infected with swine cholera were found, I was inoculated.

The prefecture plans to finish inoculation by the end of February next year, and will inoculate newly born pigs one by one.

The number of pigs bred in Gunma is about 630,000, the largest in the Kanto region as of February, and the fourth in the country.

According to the prefecture, eating pigs that have been vaccinated has no effect on health, so we will continue to seek measures from the country to prevent reputational damage.
