Days go by and every afternoon the violent people continue to occupy and burn the streets of Barcelona and the main cities of Catalonia. These are the consequences of the inability of Pedro Sánchez and the Socialist Government to manage one of the most serious crises of public order and institutional and political insubordination in the recent history of Spain. But their "moderation", which is nothing more than the inaction generated by their incompetence, is also causing perverse effects that will hinder a quick exit from the situation and the restoration of the law, order and social and economic normalcy.

Instead of "calming down the spirits," Sanchez has managed to seal the fissures that had opened on the separatist front , as evidenced by yesterday's joint press conference between Quim Torra and Pere Aragonés . Both parked their differences - focused mainly on the firm and forceful response of the Mossos to aggressive vandalism actions - and staged their union blaming the events exclusively on the Government and the actions of the National Police. Without an apex of self-criticism and avoiding condemning the violence at all times, Torra appealed to "responsibility", but tried to make a profit from the chaos and disorder that street guerrilla actions are imposing to demand "dialogue" and force a meeting with Pedro Sanchez For his part, the vice president of the Generalitat sought to justify the actions of the radicals in the "frustration" of the Catalan population by the ruling of the Supreme Court. It is intolerable that independentism refuses to explicitly condemn street violence and still does not recognize or validate the judgments of the courts of Justice . No one in a rule of law can delegitimize who are the guarantors of respect for constitutional order.

But Sánchez's inaction is also taking its toll on the constitutionalists. Both PP and Citizens have asked the President of the Government that the PSC break with its independent partners of ERC and JxCat in Catalan institutions before the intransigent drift of the Government. With good reason, Pablo Casado demanded Sanchez immediate answers so that law and order reign in Catalonia again if he wants to continue counting on his support. Along the same lines, Albert Rivera asked for the application of article 155 and the removal of Torra from the presidency of the Generalitat. The two leaders of the right center have been willing to collaborate on a constitutionalist front as the only way to deal effectively with separatism.

It is true, as the Interior Minister said, that in many European countries there are examples of street violence that are contained by law enforcement. But in Spain the situation is aggravated by the institutional disloyalty of an autonomous government . And that requires a coordinated and firm response that goes beyond police action.
