The owners of the Madrid building sought to create "a new space for rest" and tourism in the capital with a "new vision of interior design," said María Lillo, Esther Mengual and Cathy Figueiredo, from the Wanna Be studio.
" Living the now is something that removed us, and the feeling that the world was ending. Everything was on its way but us, hence the 2060 The Newton Hostel," says Mengual, proud to have recently picked up the prize in New York Hospitality Design Awards, one of the most prestigious in the sector. "It was a project with a very humble budget, it was amazing for us."
Her creativity and originality led this group of friends to create a space "beyond rest" and, according to Mengual, many of the young people who come to the facilities seek above all to enjoy the spa or leisure space called Bunker , where They sit "to work or watch movies ."
GORILLA, RABBIT OR OCTOPUS?
Aimed at a millennial audience, the truth is that since its opening 2060 The Newton Hostel brings together people of all ages, since the place has full accessibility: it has capacity for about 290 people at a price of around 20 euros.
The hostel has 194 beds, distributed in 27 rooms with interactive bunk beds, in which guests find phrases that invite carpe diem to the fleeting weather, and in which with a small stage or photocall they can become a rabbit, a gorilla, an octopus or a mushroom with positive messages.
Every morning they invite guests to coffee and churros after 8.00, they have bike rental service to discover Madrid on wheels and without polluting ("the planet always matters to us, in this life and in all that come" ) and save up to 40% energy thanks to aerothermal energy, a clean technology that allows them to generate heat and cold.
