In preview for Europe 1, Axel de Tarlé had access to the results of the experiment "zero plastic" carried out in a supermarket Franprix.

The world Bouge: Axel de Tarlé. In preview for Europe 1, the results of this experiment very enlightening on our capacity to change ecological model. For a month, Franprix has been experimenting with a new "zero plastic" store. And Axel, you can tell us what works and what does not work.

Everyone can take the test, especially in the sandwich shop of this supermarket of a new kind. The customer is offered dishes to take away - via two formulas: the classic formula - old-fashioned - with plastic packaging. Or, for the same price, the green formula, with glass dishes, boxes and cutlery, reusable, which must of course be returned to the store, so that they can be cleaned and reused. Everything is without constraint.

What do you think customers do? About half choose the green formula, it's not bad. But where it goes wrong is that only about a third of customers report them to the store, that's not enough. We can still note that this figure increases over the weeks. So there, since it is an experiment, perhaps it would be necessary to introduce a deposit so that people bring back more dishes.

And so ? Franprix will generalize this concept of sandwich "zero plastic"?

Yes, eventually, it will be necessary to change the model. I remind you that the European Union has voted for the total ban of single-use plastics for 2021. It's for tomorrow. And so, big companies are testing new models. Because behind everything must reorganize. For example, Citéo, who is a partner in experimentation, points out that these glasses and reusable dishes must be cleaned. And be able to clean them not too far. Because if we do it at the other end of France, it does not have any more interest in terms of C02.

But, and this is the good news, everyone gets busy and the customer is ready to follow. Even if we see it, the directive could introduce a little discipline into this new circular economy.
