It was found that almost 26 billion yen was effectively neglected, with almost no funds spent by the government being used by organizations that provide credit guarantees for fishermen to borrow money. The Auditing Office will ask that a part of the funds be returned to the country.

The Fisheries Credit Fund Associations across the country guarantee debt to make it easier for small and medium fishermen to borrow money from financial institutions, and take over if fishermen are unable to repay.

The funds for this are spent by the government through the “Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries Credit Fund”, but when the Inspectorate Survey conducted over the past five years, almost 26 billion yen was virtually neglected with almost no funds spent. I understood that it was done.

This is thought to be due to the fact that the size of the fund has been maintained despite the declining demand for borrowing due to the aging of fishermen.

The auditing office is not expected to use about 9 billion yen in the future, and asks the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries to return it to the country as a waste of public money.

Regarding this, the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries says, “Since the test results have not been published, we cannot comment”.
