“The task of art is not the truth of life, but its truth”: 90 years since the birth of Rolan Bykov

On October 12, 1929, a theater and film actor, director Rolan Bykov was born. At first he learned acting, later took up theatrical direction, and eventually preferred the set to the stage. In the movie, Rolan Bykov performed more than a hundred roles: both in the tapes of the great Soviet directors and in his own, including in Telegram, Nose and Scarecrow. The artist’s contribution to art is marked by significant awards and titles. Bykov died on October 6, 1998. In addition to the cinematic heritage, which includes several unfinished works, he left behind literary works: poems and diaries, which, after the death of the director, were published by his widow Elena Sanaeva. The image of the People's Artist of the USSR Rolan Bykov was recreated in the autobiographical novel of Pavel Sanaev “Bury me behind the baseboard”.
