Have you never wondered why left-wing politicians are closely following the predictions of some experts on climate change and, instead, despise those made by other experts about the danger of public pensions ? And don't tell me that there are differences between climate scientists and macroeconomists when it comes to anticipating the future because I take the document The limits of growth, written in 1972 and commissioned to MIT by the Club of Rome, the result of the analysis carried out by this one in 1970.

The main conclusion of that report was that with the growth that the world population experienced then, the exploitation of natural resources, pollution and food production remained unchanged, the planet's resources would reach their limit in a hundred years. All these variables have grown exponentially and nobody now thinks that the Earth will collapse in 2070.

What we are going to. Predictions are what they are . But if we are to predictions, we are to predictions in everything, right? Because the same data is there to believe that the warming of the land exists, as that the population growth in Spain will jeopardize the collection of a decent public pension. And the Government and the leftist parties are trying to convince us about the energy transition, while they turn a deaf ear to the in-depth reform of Social Security. The Bank of Spain has recalled in recent days that the system is unsustainable if it is not substantially modified because it would need a quantity of resources that the Spanish economy cannot generate.

It would be interesting to put the same fervor in fighting the warming of the Earth that in preventing Security from falling apart . But it is that fighting against global warming is politically sexy, while speaking to Spaniards - especially those under 40 - about the hardships of their retirement can take votes. Today's pensions can be updated according to the CPI, as Pedro Sánchez announced yesterday. What the acting president does not dare to say is what will happen to those of the next generation.

So scientific -or not- that is to say that the temperature of the sea is going to go up one degree until 2050, as on that date we will need an additional 36,000 million euros to pay the pensions if they are not reformed. How about another Greta Thunberg - and her age - who cries out to politicians for their pension?
