Kazakhstan has witnessed a horrific incident in the past few days, after a baby believed to have been born dead was admitted to the morgue refrigerator in a hospital, despite the sudden movement of his leg, suggesting that he may still be alive.

Two doctors in the case have been charged with murder for insisting that the child be placed in the morgue's refrigerator because "the papers classify him as already dead," the Daily Mail reported.

Prosecutors in the case said doctors ordered the baby to be placed in the cold morgue despite the leg moving, a sign of life.

The chief doctor, Kanesh Nisanbaev, and the second unnamed doctor at the Atyrau maternity center in Kazakhstan are charged with murder and could face up to 20 years in prison.

“After the birth, the baby was registered as a dead child, while he was still alive,” said anti-corruption police chief Shengs Capdola.

“After the child showed signs of life, instead of taking urgent measures, the doctors decided to act according to the records already issued that he was dead. They put the baby in the morgue refrigerator to die, as the recordings showed.

The defendants allege that the hospital's database showed that the child had already died.
