The elections of November 10 represent an opportunity for the Popular Party to recover the position it lost in the elections of April 28. Then, after the abrupt departure of power by the motion of censure, he added only 66 seats. This poor result, together with the rise of Citizens, allowed to feed the dispute over the hegemony of the center right. The challenge of Pablo Casado at the head of the PP is to gather the vote of center right and place this formation as the clear alternative to the PSOE. In the interview published today by EL MUNDO, Casado defends the turn to moderation of the last months and wields an economic speech, clearly liberal, with which he hopes to ingratiate himself with many of the voters who in the last elections opted for Cs and Vox.

The fact that both Albert Rivera and Santiago Abascal reject any type of alliance prior to 10-N with the popular advocates the center-right to perpetuate fragmentation. To this obstacle, Casado adds the configuration of electoral lists that integrate all internal currents and that has the support of regional barons. No survey predicts that the sum of the right-wing center allows the formation of government. However, Pedro Sánchez's failure to carry out his investiture, the sharp division in the left block and Rivera's swinging strategy amplify the possibilities of recovering the PP. The president of Ciudadanos opened yesterday to agree with the PSOE, which means lifting the veto maintained until the last breath of the failed legislature, when he offered Sanchez an agreement in extremis that would have allowed him to overcome the blockade. This newspaper has always defended the need to form a stable government capable of facing challenges of the size of the economic horizon and the separatist assault in Catalonia. Married should seriously consider the possibility of articulating State agreements with PSOE and Citizens that not only facilitate the unlocking in which Spanish policy has run aground but also allows to face pending reforms. Especially, in a context in which the symptoms of deceleration and both Brexit, such as the cooling of Germany and the trade war deepen the uncertainty.

In this context, Casado is successful in maintaining its commitment to an economic program that includes a notable tax reduction. The leader of the PP proposes to lower the IRPF below 40%, and 20% of corporate income tax, and eliminate inheritance, donation and equity taxes. He also believes it is necessary to reactivate employment by promoting more support for freelancers and entrepreneurs. The economy will be key to resolve the result of 10-N. Casado has the challenge of reviving his party, bringing him back together and defending the historical baggage of the PP governments as a guarantee of management in the event of an economic crisis.
